
Kenneth B. Lanning, 67, of Beloit, Wisconsin, died Friday, August 7, 1998 in his home.
He was born January 13, 1931 in Belvidere, Ill., the son of Irving and Irene Lyons Lanning. He married Lillian Bamert on May 1, 1954 in Janesville, Wisconsin. Ken was a 1949 graduate of Beloit High School and a U.S. Marine Corp. veteran, serving from 1951 to 1953. He was a member of the Sun Valley Presbyterian Church, where he served as an Elder and on various committees, including the Finance and Nominating committees. He was a sponsor and manager of Lanning's Softball Team and was a member of the Executive Board and Treasurer of the Beloit Boys Baseball Association, past President of the Little League Association, and board member of Parks and Recreation of the City of Beloit. Overall, Ken served the baseball program of the City of Beloit for 35 years. He was a member of the Marine Corp. League.
Ken was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, and a friend to all who knew him as well as a devoted Cub and Bear fan, and also enjoyed bowling and the church Dart Ball League.
Survivors include his wife, Lillian; his son, Dan (Mary) Lanning; his daughters, Joni (Robert) Butcher, and Julie (Larry) Sheets; four grandchildren, USN Seaman Derek Butcher, Marie Lanning, Aaron Lanning, and Jacob Lanning; a brother, Eugene (Gernelda) Lanning; a sister, Shirley Mackay; brother-in-law, and sister-in-law, Joe and Carol Bamert; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents and brother-in-law, George Mackay.
