Richard L. (Wimpy or Wink) Winkler, 75, of Vernon township, Meadville, died Thursday, October 30, 2008, at Meadville Medical Center.
Mr. Winkler was born in Erie on July 18, 1933, a son of the late Charles Allen Winkler and Mary Estella Henderson. He married Mary Ellen Williams at Watson Run Presbyterian Church on Nov. 17, 1951. Mrs. Winkler preceded him in death, April 12, 2008.
Mr. Winkler was employed at the former Blazon Co. in Linesville for 14 years. While working at Blazon, his nickname was Wimpy. He subsequently was employed at Werner Ladder in Greenville for 17 and a half years, where he was known as Wink. After his retirement, he enjoyed driving a school bus for Laidlaw Transit and Hubbard Bus Service. He enjoyed reading, gardening and spending time with his family. He attended Trinity United Methodist Church, Conneaut Lake.
Survivors include two sons, Dale Winkler and his wife, Cheryl, of Cheaspeake, Va., and Donald E. Winkler and his companion, Nancy Robinson, of Conneaut Lake; a daughter, Marlene Lucas and her husband, James, of Conneaut Lake; two sisters, Karen Cywinski and her husband, Dan, of Erie, and Camille Klutz and her husband, Joe, of Edinboro; eight grandchildren, James A. Lucas, Mary Lucas, Richard Lucas, Randy O'Neil, Melissa Crawford, Cassandra Clark, Donald L. Winkler and Angela Keppie; and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 56 years; three brothers, Glenn, Roger and Leonard Winkler; and a great-grandson, Nathan Keppie.
Visitation will be at Dickson Funeral Home, 130 N. Second St., Conneaut Lake, Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the church, with the Rev. William Green, pastor of the church, officiating. Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Meadville.
